WICHITA, Kan.  – Wichita State Athletics and Klausmeyer Construction have embarked on a new and unique partnership to bring a newly constructed home for sale in the Wichita community, and give a boost to the Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization (SASO) for several years, Director of Athletics Eric Sexton announced today.
“With these uncertain economic times it is reassuring to know that the Wichita community can come together to meet the needs of others,” Athletic Director Eric Sexton said. “As the cost of education continues to soar, we continue to look for new avenues to raise additional support for our student athletes.  Don Klausmeyer, and many other contributors, have stepped up for this project, and we are proud to call them Shockers.”
The project’s mission is to construct a house through donated labor and materials from area businesses and partnerships throughout the community.  The first Shocker House is set for completion in April, in time for the annual city wide Parade of Homes.
“It is a partner deal,” Klausmeyer said. “It shows the character of people in this business. I was taken by surprise in the tough economic times the number of people who are going to help in this project. It is a worthy cause. At the game last night, when they were introducing all of the honor roll student-athletes, it shows they need this. Those we are helping now will give back to society later on.”
All contributing contractors will receive benefits and recognition for their contributions.
“We would also like to thank Pat Goebel of Star Lumber, Harold Baalmann of B&B Lumber and Steve Ruud of Ruud Concrete for their initial support,” Sexton said. “And we are still looking for contributors who want to help make this a yearly project.”
The first Shocker House is under construction in West Wichita at 1805 Nickleton, Wichita, KS 67235, in the Silverton Addition. The Spring Parade of Homes dates are April 10-11, April 17-18 and April 24-25.
Shocker House will serve as the first of many Shocker Houses that Klausmeyer Construction has agreed to build while donating the profit from each home to SASO.
